What the numbers say about Greece in 2027
The count uses Saturday and Sunday as the weekly rest days, the standard pattern in Greece. Only holidays that apply across the whole country are deducted. Someone working in a region with its own extra days will have a little more time off than these figures show.
6 holidays land on a rest day this year: Labour Day (1 May), Easter Sunday (2 May), Pentecost (20 Jun), Assumption Day (15 Aug), Christmas Day (25 Dec), St. Stephen's Day (26 Dec). On the calendar alone that means no extra time off. Some countries move the day off to the next working day; whether that applies here is set by national rules, so check before you plan around it.
December is the longest working month with 23 days, and January the shortest with 19. A gap of 4 days is enough to make a fixed monthly target noticeably harder in some months than in others. Across quarters, Q1 is the leanest at 60 working days (January, February, March).
2026 had 251working days, so 2027gives you 2 more working days.Plans copied over from last year without adjusting for that difference will be slightly off from January onwards.
Among the 204 countries we track for 2027, the median number of national holidays is 12. With 15, Greece sits above the middle of the range, around the 82nd percentile (the lowest count this year is 3, the highest 49).
Holidays create 4 stretches of three or more days off in a row. The longest lasts 4 days, from 30 April to 3 May (Good Friday, Labour Day, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday). There are also 2 bridge days: a single working day squeezed between a holiday and the weekend, where one day of leave turns into four or more days away. See every long weekend in 2027.
6 holidays change date compared with 2026: Clean Monday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Pentecost, Whit Monday. Movable dates are the ones most often missed when last year's schedule is reused.
How holidays work in Greece
Greek holidays follow Orthodox Easter, which is calculated using the Julian rule. It usually falls on a different Sunday from Easter in Western churches, and the gap can be as much as five weeks.
Two other holidays move with it: Clean Monday, at the start of Lent, and Holy Spirit Monday, after Pentecost. Because all three shift together, they can fall in different months from one year to the next.
Greek law also separates holidays that are compulsory days off from those that are optional, where observance is up to the employer or a sector agreement. This page treats all nationwide holidays the same way, which will overstate time off for parts of the private sector.
