Knowing that a country has eleven public holidays tells you surprisingly little. The questions that land on a desk are one step further on: will an invoice due in thirty days fall on a day the client's office is open, how many billable days does March really hold, is the supplier in another country closed on the day a shipment arrives? Each of those needs the calendar converted into a count, and that conversion is what this site does.
Weekends are stored per country instead of being assumed, because Saturday and Sunday is not the rule everywhere. A holiday that lands on a rest day is flagged, since it is easy to count it as an extra day off when in many places it simply disappears. Regional holidays are shown but kept out of national totals, so the figure you see is one that holds across the whole country.
Dates are drawn from an open, public-domain holiday dataset compiled from national sources and refreshed automatically every week, so next year's calendars appear as soon as they are published. Some dates are fixed by proclamation or by the sighting of the moon and can move after we publish them; the methodology page explains how we handle that and what the numbers leave out.
